Mina made a name for herself DJing in packed, smoky basements in Leeds, playing an exciting blend of afrobeats, dancehall and tropical sounds from all over the world. She quickly began channeling her influences from West Africa, the Caribbean and her native UK as she took her first steps into music production, creating an unique take on global club music that has earned her a coveted spot on FACT’s ‘Producers to watch in 2016’ feature.
After putting up several originals and remixes up on her Soundcloud page, she teamed up with Italian producer Lorenzo BITW for her first release ‘Tombura’, which came out in 2015 on LA-based label Friends of Friends, paving the way for her official debut EP ‘Kabala’ on Enchufada.
Inspired by her travels in Sierra Leone, where she visited the town of Kabala for an unforgettable New Years Eve party on top of a mountain, Mina steps forward with two original tracks - including a collaboration with Freetown-based producer Sillati - energized by her wide range of tropical influences to firmly define her musical identity. On New Patan (feat. Sillati) and Pineapples & Qumquats we’re served a slowed-down take on UK Funky riddims, afrobeats syncopations and grime-inspired synthetic bass lines, resulting in a joyful and captivating debut EP that is simultaneously electronic and organic.
